Elizabeth and Robert Gibb still remember fondly the hymn Oh Perfect Love that was played when they got married 60 years ago.

And they still remember when they met at a local fayre in Larkhall in 1962.

The following year, Robert and Elizabeth got married in her home town of Larkhall. The couple then moved to Robert’s home town of Uddingston.

Joining them at their home in Uddingston last week to help them celebrate their Diamond Wedding Anniversary was South Lanarkshire Provost Margaret Cooper, who presented the couple with flowers, a special bottle of whisky and a certificate on behalf of the council.

And Deputy Lieutenant for Lanarkshire Andrew Braidwood was also on hand to present them with a certificate from The King and The Queen Consort to mark their achievement.

Robert was a motor mechanic and was a trainer at a local college, taking great pride in seeing all the young apprentices as they progressed through their courses and on into full-time jobs.

And Elizabeth, having worked for a while at Simpsons in Larkhall, got a new job at Tunnock’s, rising to become a supervisor during her 35 years at the famous Uddingston bakery.

The couple then emigrated to California where Robert worked for a while at a car spares firm. But after 15 years they decided to return home to Uddingston where they have lived ever since.

The couple have two daughters - Pearl, who lives in America, and Elizabeth, who lives in France. They now have two grandsons -Thibault and Duncan.

They both still enjoy walking and keeping fit and put there 60 years together down to good old-fashioned give and take.
