Improvement works are continuing to be made over the coming weeks as the A72/M74 junction 7 (Larkhall) nears completion.

The next part of the project will be split into five phases.

The first phase will mean the full closure of Duke Street from Monday 13 May until Friday 17 May – there will be no access onto and from the A72.

The second phase will see off-peak traffic signals in operation from Friday 24 May until Wednesday 29 May.

On Thursday 30 May and Friday 31 May, there will overnight closures of the A72 between the M74 off ramp and Duke Street.

On Wednesday 5 June, there will be an overnight closure of the M74 off ramp, and on Thursday 6 June and Friday 7 June there will be overnight closures of the on ramp (all in relation to junction 7, Larkhall).

Head of Roads, Fleet and Transportation Services, Colin Park, said: “These closures are necessary to allow us to safely complete the resurfacing elements that are required for this project.

“Please note that all these closures are subject to alteration and formal closure notices will be issued, and appropriate advance signing will be in place on site to advise drivers.

“All closures will have signed diversion routes in place for their duration.

“We fully appreciate the inconvenience and frustration road closures can cause, and we thank motorists, residents and businesses in advance for their patience and cooperation. As ever we would ask motorists in the area to plan ahead and build in additional journey time.”
