The group has a 10-year lease on the building and is gradually creating a warm and welcoming hub from what was a derelict property.

Having already updated the double glazing and disability access, they turned to the Community Wish List for help upgrading the old toilet block to create a new and improved kitchen and toilet facility.

Lanarkshire-based MacLay Civil Engineering was happy to answer the plea to the tune of £500.

Philip Cave, Funding Co-ordinator, said: “This is a big project for us and the donation from the wish list will help us as we move forward with our desire to create a more usable community space, generating more membership and community benefit.”

Charles M. McLaughlan, Managing Director of Maclay Civil Engineering added: “We are proud to announce that we made a £500 donation to Biggar District Men’s Shed, as a contribution to make modifications to the redundant children's toilets by installing a kitchen area and an accessible toilet.

“This donation is not just a financial commitment; it’s a symbol of our dedication to building a more inclusive and compassionate society.”

The Community Wish List (CWL) is supported by the council’s Community Engagement team. 

Chair of the Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, Councillor Lesley McDonald, said: "This is another great example of the CWL and the unique and individual benefits it can bring to local communities and organisations.”
