Overnight closures set for Palace Grounds Road in Hamilton
Published: Monday 3 June 2024

Major carriageway repairs are to get underway this weekend along the A72 Palace Grounds Road, Hamilton.
Carriageway patching will take place from its junction with Motherwell Road Roundabout up to and including Muir Street Roundabout.
To minimise disruption to road users the work will be undertaken overnight from Sunday 9 June and is expected to be finished by the morning of Thursday 13 June, weather and resources permitting.
The work will be carried out in four phases between 9pm each evening and 6am the following morning, with the road being open outwith these times.
Traffic will be unable to travel through the closure during the works, although the council will endeavour to maintain access for businesses / residents who live / work within the closure wherever possible.
There may be instances where access and egress will be significantly delayed depending on the status and progress of works on site. If you wish to avoid this, it may be advisable to park your vehicle outside the road closure prior to works starting.
Traffic Marshals and site staff will be there to advise and assist residents during the working day.
Colin Park, the head of the council’s Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, said: “We would request that all road users allow additional time for all journeys which involve the use of A723 within Hamilton Town Centre during the times indicated and that they plan their journey accordingly.
“If these dates change for any reason, signs will be used to notify you of the revised dates.
