New zebra crossings for Burnbank Road
Published: Wednesday 2 October 2024

Work to install two new zebra crossings in Hamilton is to take place from next week.
The crossings will be on Burnbank Road, with the first set of works taking place east of Newfield Cresent from Monday 7 October.
The work is expected to last two weeks and will mean Newfield Crescent will be closed to allow the works to take place under two-way temporary traffic signals on Burnbank Road.
The second phase of works will take place west of West Stewart Street for two weeks from Monday October 21. Temporary traffic signals will again be in place on Burnbank Road during this period.
Pedestrians wishing to use the existing crossing islands while the work is in operation will be guided to a suitable alternative crossing point.
Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, Colin Park, said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause, but we hope people appreciate once they are complete, they will help improve road safety in the area.
“The signals at both locations will be monitored during peak hours to mitigate any delays.
“However, drivers should expect delays and consider alternative routes or modes of transport or allow extra time for their journeys if this isn’t possible.”
