Options for new commercial waste service to be investigated

South Lanarkshire Council has agreed to explore options for operating a new commercial waste service.
A motion at a meeting of the Council asked officers to investigate the existing commercial waste management arrangements, with a view to looking at a new system.
The motion states: Council asks officers to explore and report on the feasibility of the following options in addition to any other methods considered as part of its exploration:
• Options and implications of a system of allocated time slots for commercial waste to minimise the time waste is placed on streets.
• Proposals for consulting with businesses and their service providers on any new arrangements.
• Options and implications of supporting businesses to adjust to any changes.
• Options and implications of compliance, including the use of Fixed Penalty Notices.
The motion, which was passed unanimously, was proposed by Councillor Janine Calikes and seconded by Councillor Andrea Cowan.
