Local wetlands mapping data revealed
Published: Wednesday 22 January 2025
A new study has provided wetland data which will allow the management of the area’s nature networks in a more targeted way.
With £2500 part-funding from the council, Glasgow and Clyde Valley (GCV) Green Network, part of the Glasgow City Region, has officially launched the findings of the mapping study which reveals key evidence for the region to help create future wetland areas.
Councillor Noman Rae, the chair of the council’s Climate Change and Sustainability Committee, said: “The results of this work will help address local, regional and national priorities to support and combat climate and nature issues across South Lanarkshire and the surrounding areas.
“We will continue to work in partnership with the GCV Green Network in the development and delivery of nature networks.”
Nature networks connect a wide range of habitats to not only help protect and restore nature but provide local benefits to wildlife and people alike.
Therefore, to ensure Scotland's nature can thrive, nature-rich areas must be connected through a series of networks linking them all together.
Creating new networks are a key action within the recently published Scottish Biodiversity Delivery Plan.
