Pitch upgrade will benefit local community

A football pitch in Lesmahagow is to undergo a substantial refurbishment.
Lesmahagow Community Football Club received funding from the council-administered Renewable Energy Fund (REF), which will see more than £150,000 invested in the pitches at McKirdy Park.
A 3G surface will be put in place to create a new 7-a-side pitch, along with a new roof net, shock pad, membrane and resurfacing to the existing tarmacadam.
Club Chairperson John Goulding said: “Everyone at Lesmahagow Community Football Club (LCFC) is delighted to receive this fantastic grant from the REF.
“The upgrade of McKirdy pitch will be a great benefit to all the players and coaches of LFCF, along with all the other organisations from the village and surrounding area who use the facility.”
Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “McKirdy Park is a focal point within the village of Lesmahagow and hosts numerous community events and activities.
“The upgrading of the pitch and surroundings will enhance the overall area, and I wish the club every success for the future.”
