A72 at Symington to close for road repairs
Published: Thursday 29 May 2025

Essential surface repair works will mean a three-day closure of the A72 Biggar Road in Symington next week.
Council road teams will start work on the stretch of road between the A73 and Main Street junctions on Monday, 2 June. Motorists are being advised to expect the road to remain closed to traffic until Thursday morning at the earliest.
A signed diversion route will be in place throughout via the A72, A702, B7055 and A73, and access for those living within the closure area will be maintained, albeit with delays possible.
Colin Park, Head of Roads, Transportation, and Fleet Services said: “We fully appreciate the inconvenience and frustration road closures can cause, and we thank motorists, residents, and businesses in advance for their patience and cooperation.
“These works are essential to ensure road safety on this part of the A72, and we hope that all who use it will agree that the temporary inconvenience will deliver long-term benefits.“
"As ever, we would ask motorists in the area to plan ahead and build in additional journey time when they can.”
