East Kilbride groups share £50,000 funding boost
Published: Wednesday 16 July 2025
Three East Kilbride community groups are to share £50,000 from the council’s new Local Action Fund.
The council’s Executive Committee unanimously agreed to proposals made by local councillors in the East Kilbride South Ward at its June meeting.
As a result, East Kilbride and District Dementia Carers Group will receive £25,000.
Additionally, local food bank, Loaves and Fishes, will receive £10,000, while clothes recycling scheme and charity shop, Waist Not Want Not, gets a £15,000 boost.
Funding for the investment is a result of the administration budget passed by the council earlier this year, with an additional £50,000 allocated to each of the 20 council wards.
Councillors in each ward were asked to come up with proposals for how the Local Action Fund should be spent, with final decisions to be taken by the Executive Committee.
The first 13 of the 20 council wards were approved last month.
Council Leader Joe Fagan said: “The Local Action Fund is designed to help each community with projects that might not cost a lot of money but can have a lasting and worthwhile impact for everyone who lives there.
“Local councillors were able to gauge from their constituents where the money could be best spent, and I am delighted that we have agreement in 13 of the 20 council wards, with the others to follow in due course.
“The projects in East Kilbride South will bring significant benefit to those who need it most in the community and tackle head-on some of the biggest challenges being faced day-to-day by those who live there.”
The elected members for East Kilbride South, Ward 6, are Councillor Archie Buchanan, Councillor Mathew Buchanan, and Councillor Geri Gray.
