Refurbishment transforms Lanark Loch decking area
Published: Tuesday 15 July 2025
Lanark Loch has received a significant upgrade following the completion of a major refurbishment project.
The works aim to improve safety, accessibility, and the overall visitor experience.
As part of the project, the wooden decking area - which had deteriorated over time and become hazardous in wet or frosty conditions - was fully removed.
In addition, tired and overgrown trees and shrubbery were cleared to open the space and allow for a more attractive, low-maintenance landscape.
Key improvements include the installation of brand-new anti-slip decking in selected areas and the replacement of the old wooden walkway with a durable mono-block surface to provide a safer and more accessible route.
Several picnic benches and summer seats have also been installed, encouraging families and visitors to enjoy the loch-side setting.
Chair of the Clydesdale Area Committee, Councillor Catherine McClymont, said: “Lanark Loch is a valued community asset, and we’re delighted to have made these important upgrades.
“The new decking and pathways not only improve safety but also help create a more welcoming space for residents and tourists alike."
Chair of the Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “This refurbishment will greatly benefit visitors to Lanark Loch by improving the surrounding area’s safety and accessibility.
“We are confident that these improvements will encourage more people to visit this scenic location and enjoy the beautiful area around Lanark Loch.
“I would like to thank those involved for their hard work on delivering these refurbishments.”
The refurbishment was delivered as part of the Frontline First Fund.
Frontline First is a £3.5m fund set aside by South Lanarkshire Council to tackle a range of issues related to improving public spaces.
The project reflects the council’s ongoing commitment to investing in local green spaces and supporting outdoor recreation for all.
