Funding for Bothwell charity is just the job

A group working to make Bothwell “a better place to live, work and visit” has been given a vital financial boost by the council.
Bothwell Futures, a charity that works with local partners to develop, manage and partially-fund projects that are beneficial to the village and its residents, has been granted £25,000 to support the employment of a general manager for a year.
The funding is a result of the administration budget passed by the council earlier this year, with an additional £50,000 being allocated to each of the 20 council wards.
Councillors in each ward were asked to come up with proposals for how the new Local Action Fund should be spent, with final decisions being taken by the Executive Committee.
The first proposals have now been unanimously agreed at a meeting of the Executive Committee.
Council Leader Joe Fagan said: “The Local Action Fund was agreed as part of our Building Back Budget and is designed to help each community with projects that can have a lasting and worthwhile impact for everyone who lives there.
“Local councillors were able to gauge from their constituents where the money could be best used, and I am delighted that we already have agreement for how the money should be spent in 13 of the 20 council wards, with the others to follow in due course.
“Bothwell Futures has made a major beneficial impact on the village and the employment of a general manager will enable them to not only continue this work, but also to build upon it.”
The remaining £25,000 allocated to Ward 16 (Bothwell and Uddingston), for which the elected members are Councillor Maureen Devlin, Councillor Cal Johnston-Dempsey and Councillor Kenny McCreary, is to be spent in Uddingston and the proposal for it will be considered at a future meeting of the Executive Committee.
