Go paperless with your council tax bill
Published: Monday 15 September 2025
Residents across South Lanarkshire are being encouraged to sign up for paperless council tax bills.
Customers who sign up for paperless billing would no longer receive a paper bill and any changes to their bill after signing up would be notified in an email. Customers can contact the Council Tax team should they wish to revert to receiving paper bills.
There are two ways to set up paperless billing depending on whether the customer has an existing MyAccount linked to the council.
Existing users can register for paperless billing from the ‘popular services’ link within their account.
For customers who do not have a MyAccount, they will have to register with MyGov.Scot.
Chair of the council’s Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, Councillor Lesley McDonald, said: “Going paperless is simple to do and makes it much quicker and easier to check your bill.
“It also helps the council save money on printing and postage costs.
“We currently have more than 18,000 customers already signed up to MyAccount, and I would encourage those who are able to sign up for it to do so – there are many more benefits beside being able to get your council tax bill electronically.”
Existing MyAccount customers can already view their Council Tax information online, as well as updating contact details, setting up a direct debit, change of address, applying/cancelling a single person discount and view the date and value of last payment. Council tenants can also view their rent balance through MyAccount.
