The success of Scotland’s men’s team in reaching the World Cup Finals next year has been praised in a motion unanimously backed by the Council.
The motion states: “Council celebrates the outstanding achievement of the Scotland Men’s national football team, led by Steve Clarke, in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup Finals, ensuring Scotland's participation for the first time since 1998.
“Council particularly notes the contribution made by South Lanarkshire raised Kenny McLean in scoring the spectacular last-minute goal that secured qualification.
“Council requests that the Provost write to Steve Clarke and the playing squad wishing them every success in June.”
The motion was proposed by Councillor Andrea Cowan and seconded by Councillor Colin Dewar.
