Council team can help mediate festive fallouts
Published: Friday 12 December 2025
The council's Mediation Service is available to residents across South Lanarkshire over this festive season
Experience has shown that the Christmas period, on top of existing life pressures, can often lead to upsetting festive fallout.
It is a busy and stressful time of year as we gear up for time off from work and school and prepare for family visits and celebrations.
Whether it be with a friend or a neighbour, stress levels can rise quickly and swiftly get completely out of hand.
Family tensions can rise too, with disagreements resulting in an increased risk of homelessness for young people.
Please don’t wait until things get that bad.
Parents, caregivers or young people who need confidential advice or assistance can contact our specially trained mediators to help them restore family relations now and prevent the risk of homelessness for young people over Christmas.
Councillor Davie McLachlan, the Chair of the council’s Housing and Technical Resources Committee, said: “Unfortunately, at this time of year, many people can experience problems with their neighbours or family. And sometimes these situations can escalate with potentially serious consequences, including homelessness.
“The council offers a free Mediation Service to all South Lanarkshire residents. It is a confidential, impartial service to help resolve any problems and find a mutually agreeable way forward.”
