Stay safe this Christmas
Published: Tuesday 23 December 2025
Christmas and New Year party season is well underway in South Lanarkshire with fun, high spirits and good cheer top of the agenda.
And while everyone wants to be able to go out and enjoy themselves in our local pubs, clubs and restaurants, there is one other essential factor to include in a great night out: everybody wants to return home safely at the end of the night.
Councillor Davie McLachlan, the Chair of the council’s Housing and Technical Resources Committee, said: “Personal safety is always a focus for emergency services and South Lanarkshire Council’s Community Wardens, and they will be working together over the Christmas and New Year period to keep revellers safe.”
It’s not just merrymakers who may find themselves in need of help, however. Rough sleepers or those who have found themselves homeless can be vulnerable in their own ways, and the Community Wardens will be watching out for anyone they might need to engage with and will obtain assistance for them where necessary.
Councillor McLachlan said: “Our wardens will be patrolling town centres and hospitality hotspots in our CCTV vans throughout the festive period to support vulnerable individuals of any sort and in any situation, as well as providing extra reassurance to those enjoying a good night out.
“If you think someone looks vulnerable and needs assistance, or if you notice someone acting suspiciously, you should report this immediately to hospitality staff, Police or the Community Wardens. Above all, please stay safe at Christmas.”
