Pupils and staff have plenty to celebrate

Sanderson High School has been given a glowing report from Education Scotland.
Following a visit from a team of inspectors, the report said the pupils at the East Kilbride school received a high level of support at both a pastoral and learning level.
And from the leadership of the headteacher and depute headteacher, all staff work effectively to deliver a wide range of learning experiences that not only raises the pupils’ achievements but invokes real confidence and pride in their school.
The staff also work very well to develop positive relationships across the school which makes the pupils feel safe, understood and included.
And senior pupils are also encouraged to develop their confidence in the local community which will help them make easier transitions to further education or training when they leave school.
Head Teacher Katie Robinson said: “I am proud of the report, which is very positive in the areas that matter most to us as a school community.
“Our pupils are confident, and we promote a positive ethos of inclusion and ensure all pupils are safe. Staff work very hard to ensure that all pupils are provided with engaging and meaningful learning experiences, and this was recognised by inspectors.
“The inspection process was felt to be a positive experience for our whole school community. It has given us a clear direction for further improvements, and I am confident we will continue to improve in the areas identified by the inspection.”
The report also stated that senior staff should continue to support leadership development amongst staff at all levels so they can become involved in improving the school.
Senior leaders and teachers should also continue to develop a consistent approach to high quality learning and teaching to encourage all the pupils to engage well in their learning.
Councillor Lynsey Hamilton, the chair of the council’s Education Committee, said: “I am delighted that this report has highlighted the very positive and supportive relationships throughout the school and have no doubt that everyone will work very hard to ensure all curricular activities are maintained and improved.
“I am particularly pleased to hear that the senior leaders and staff will be further developing their approaches to meeting the needs of their pupils with more complex needs, supporting all those attending the Anxiety Lowering Learning (ALL) provision in the school.”
