A total of 10 four-bedroom semi-detached homes, 16 three-bedroom homes and 18 two-bedroom semi-detached homes will be built on the vacant site in Cairnswell Avenue, Cambuslang.

The council has entered a contract with Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd to deliver the development of the new build housing units procured through Hub South West.

They are being constructed to accommodate a range of housing needs for the area including for larger families, aiming to provide high quality affordable homes in a central location and close to the local facilities and schools.

The new homes are funded jointly by the council and Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme.

Depute chair of the council’s Housing and Technical Resources Committee, Councillor Margaret Cowie, was joined by council officials and representatives from Asheleigh (Scotland) and Hub South West, to mark the start of work.

Councillor Cowie said: “I’m delighted that we are once again delivering on improving the availability of high-quality social housing across South Lanarkshire.

“This mixture of housing will be a welcome addition to the council’s housing stock in this area.

“We are committed to providing a variety of social housing that meets the needs of local people, while maintaining affordability and value for money.”

Managing Director of Ashleigh (Scotland) Limited, Euan Clark, said: “We are delighted to get started on the Cairnswell development in Cambuslang for South Lanarkshire Council through Hub South West.

“Projects like this allow us to provide a range of employment and supply chain opportunities, along with targeted benefits for the local community.

The homes are anticipated to be completed in early 2027 and will be let through the council’s Housing Allocation Policy.
