During last year’s rent consultation, tenants supported a 6.5% rent increase.

This was in line with the previously agreed three-year approach to setting rents, subject to an annual review.

This year’s consultation marks the final year of this approach, which helped tenants plan for and manage household bills and allowed longer term business planning for the council's Housing Revenue Account (HRA).

Of those who participated in this year’s consultation, 55% of tenants confirmed their support for the continuation of a 6.5% increase in rent levels for 2026-27.

Maintaining this level of increase for a third year enables the council to deliver its proposed programme of investment in existing council homes, increase the number of affordable council homes in South Lanarkshire and continue to deliver high quality housing services to tenants.  It also ensures that the council continues to be one of the most affordable landlords in Scotland.

"Support for this rent increase enables us to deliver our proposed programme of investments while fulfilling our commitment to our three year approach to setting rents.”
