Published: Wednesday 29 April 2020
Earnock Glen residents in Hamilton have gone the extra mile - actually 26 miles - to support their local food bank.
More than 120 residents from 35 households, not forgetting four dogs, ran, walked, scootered or cycled the 720m around their street 370 times to complete their ultra-marathon challenge whilst ensuring physical distancing every step of the way..
And amongst the regular residents there were a few famous participants, including
Snow White, a dinosaur, a Highlander, Batman, Andy Murray, Elsa, The Hulk, Spider Man, Captain America and Peppa Pig.
The event was organised by Lyndsey Chatham who explained how the challenge was organised on Sunday 26 April. She said: “Each household had their own designated time slot to keep everyone safe using physical distancing.
“Because of the big response from everyone, we started the challenge at 8am and finished at 7.20pm with everyone cheering each other on throughout the day.
“It created a great atmosphere in the street and we have so far raised a huge amount of money for our local food bank as well as each family donating food and toiletries into a box when they came out f their homes when it was their turn to do their laps.
“It really was a fantastic and fun day for everyone taking part for such a good cause.”
So far the residents have raised £2512 with £563.13 in gift aid bringing the total to £3075.13.
If you would like to add to the total you can do so by going to the Just Giving - Earnock Glen page.
