And the couple from Meikle Earnock were delighted to receive gifts including flowers and a bottle of the Provost’s whisky, along with certificates from the council and the Palace to help the couple celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mary (nee Rankine) and David first met in 1956 when David started his apprenticeship, working across the road from where Mary lived.
They started dating in 1959 and got engaged in 1961. They were married in St John's Church in Hamilton on 29 September 1962.
Their daughter Fiona was born in 1964 with Colin following in 1968.
The couple now have three grandchildren - Emily, David, and Beth, son-in-law Tom and daughter-in-law Elaine.
Mary, a retired schoolteacher and David, a retired joiner have enjoyed a happy and contented life.
In the past they travelled far but are now more content to stay at home, enjoying day trips in the car frequenting garden centres for afternoon teas and meeting up with friends.
They also celebrated their special occasion by hosting a dinner party for family and friends.
