Published: Friday 21 March 2025

Groups in East Kilbride, Stonehouse and Strathaven are being supported with Community Grants from the council.
The grants were approved at the latest meeting of the East Kilbride Area Committee and will see more than £1700 of assistance given to five worthy causes that benefit local people.
East Kilbride Mountaineering Club received £300 for an outing, Round Strathaven 50 was supported with £300 for equipment and materials and St Leonard’s Rambling Club, in East Kilbride, was granted £460 towards an outing and equipment, all with the intention of helping people live the healthiest lives possible.
In order to help foster caring, connected, sustainable communities, £330 was granted to Friends of Stonehouse Park for equipment and £350 to East Kilbride Probus Club to assist with an outing and entrance fees.
The community grants scheme was established and is run by the council to fund activities and projects that bring communities together and that promote educational, recreational, leisure and other activities, or improve the local environment.
Support can be provided for a range of activities including administration and publicity costs, purchase of equipment and materials, annual outings and entrance fees, start-up costs and special events.
More information on the criteria, activities that attract funding, and the application process are available on the Community Grants page of the council website.
