Funding continues to tackle clean-up projects

A special funding programme is continuing to target environmental clean-up projects across South Lanarkshire.
Additional Frontline First funding has been set aside to allow special grounds teams to carry out a wide range of improvement work for another year.
Following an initial £3.5m three-year funding which allowed the clean-up teams to carry out a wide range of projects at more than 100 sites so far, the council’s additional £1.5m for 2025/26 will now allow even more environmental improvement work to be carried out across South Lanarkshire.
Councillor Robert Brown, the Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, said: “This additional special funding is great news as it will allow the council to continue undertaking environmental improvement works that has not been able to be undertaken due to limited resources over recent years.
“So, I am delighted that so many new areas will be targeted in the coming months as part of the council’s ongoing It’s Your Place Campaign.”
The Frontline First Fund was set aside by the council to tackle a range of environmental clean-up works to deliver additional work not currently possible under existing budget constraints.
This additional funding has again allowed seasonal workers to be retained over the winter to deliver additional environmental improvement works.
The fund has allowed specialist and new equipment to be used to tackle areas in need of attention, including cemetery infrastructure projects and biodiversity initiatives to enhance the natural environment.
Additional resources from the fund are being used to tackle the ongoing Fly-tipping and Graffiti which can be reported to the council online via these links.
The funding will as support the council’s Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services ‘safe routes for communities’ programmes including streetlighting and drainage improvement work.
