Granting a helping hand to community groups
Published: Tuesday 31 March 2026
Groups in Rutherglen and Cambuslang have been supported with more than £2400 in community grants from the council.
The funding was approved at this month’s meeting of the local Area Committee and will see the assistance given to five worthy causes.
Three groups received funding with the aim of helping people to live the healthiest lives possible, with Burnside Community Council being granted £1000 for equipment, Burnside Autumn Club receiving £300 towards an outing and the Central Cambuslang Community Garden Group having £360 approved for equipment and materials.
The two other groups were given assistance to help children and young people to thrive. Little Albas Kids Club, Rutherglen, was granted £396 for start-up costs including entrance fees and materials, and 2nd Rutherglen Brownies received £350 towards an outing and entrance fees.
The community grants scheme was established and is run by the council to fund activities and projects that bring communities together and also promote educational, recreational, leisure and other activities, or improve the local environment.
Support can be provided for a range of purposes including administration and publicity costs, purchase of equipment and materials, annual outings and entrance fees, start-up costs and special events.
More information on the criteria, activities that attract funding and the application process is available on the Community Grants page of the council website.
