Safer footpaths

We want you to be able to walk safely on our pavements and footpaths. Obstructions can make simple journeys harder, especially for wheelchair users, people with sight loss and anyone with mobility difficulties. In some cases, people may have to step into the road to get past.

What not to do

• do not park or drive on the pavement. You can request a dropped kerb if you need vehicle access
• do not leave bins, rubbish bags or loose waste where someone could trip. Arrange a bulk uplift instead
• do not place signs, displays or adverts where they block the path. You must apply for permission
• do not put scaffolding or skips on a footpath without a permit
• do not attach adverts to lamp posts or guardrails

What you should do

• trim trees and bushes so they do not block paths or views
• keep your frontage clear and safe for others
