Anti-social behaviour
Mediation service
Our mediation service helps people in South Lanarkshire resolve disputes in a calm, fair and confidential way. It can prevent problems from escalating and helps avoid police involvement or costly legal action. The service is free and open to everyone.
What we can help with
We support a wide range of issues, including:
- community and neighbour disputes
- anti-social behaviour
- noise complaints
- parking disagreements
- boundaries or high hedges
- clashes of lifestyle
- family conflict, including young people at risk of homelessness
How mediation works
When we receive a referral, one of our trained mediators will contact each person involved to listen to their concerns. They will explain how mediation works and talk through what you hope to achieve.
You can then take part in:
Joint mediation
Everyone meets together with the mediators to talk through the issues and work towards an agreement.
Shuttle mediation
If you prefer not to meet face to face, the mediators speak to each person separately and pass information between you until a solution is reached.
Mediation helps improve communication, clear up misunderstandings and create realistic agreements that work for everyone. You can watch a short video on our website to see how mediation can help.
Mediation for young people – Time to Talk
Time to Talk is our mediation service for young people who may be at risk of homelessness due to family conflict. We can help to:
- find ways to make home life less stressful
- improve communication and support within the family
- plan a move from home safely and at the right time
- prevent young people leaving home too early
- support a young person to return home if everyone agrees it is safe
We treat everyone equally, do not take sides and do not decide who is right or wrong.
