Grass cutting of road verges
How we cut grass and report concerns
We cut grass on road verges to help keep roads safe and our areas looking tidy. How often we cut depends on the type of road and location.
Rural road verges
Rural verges are usually cut once a year.
We may carry out extra cuts at junctions, bends and other areas where visibility is important, to help keep drivers safe.
Urban road verges
Grass verges in residential areas are cut more often. These are scheduled for up to 18 cuts a year, depending on weather conditions.
Cutting normally takes place between April and October, Monday to Friday, from 8am to 4.30pm.
Grass cuttings
We do not usually collect grass cuttings after mowing. This allows us to cover more areas efficiently.
We only remove cuttings in locations where landscaping work is taking place.
