Aims and Objectives | Care and Support Services North and South are two registered care services who support adults with learning disabilities and a range of complex needs to maintain tenancies and stay in their own home, as independently as possible. Not all these living arrangements are sustainable or suitable to meet the changing needs of service users. Alternative models of support are required to be developed to best fit the needs of this service user group. This would include reducing the level of waking night cover and sleepover cover for some service users by utilising telecare and supporting other service users with changing needs moving from their own tenancy to specialist residential or nursing care homes, where appropriate. A personalised approach is being adopted to the review and the proposed changes reflect each service user’s care needs. |
Conclusion | Care and Support Services will be realigned to take cognisance of the changing needs of service users, with consideration being given to the use of assistive technology/telecare and other models of support appropriate such as specialist supported living, residential care/nursing home care. The conclusion of this assessment therefore is that there is likely to be minimal if any impact on service users with the protected characteristic of age and disability as individuals affected by the re-design of the service will continue to receive a service based on need with their individual circumstances taken into account. There may be an impact on the staff currently delivering the service by the reduction in posts required, however anyone effected by this will be managed in accordance with the council’s collective bargaining agreement and therefore identifies efficiencies where individuals are eligible for early retirement, voluntary redundancy or redeployment. |
