Hate crime

Reporting hate crime

Everyone in South Lanarkshire should feel safe. If you experience or witness a hate crime, please tell us as soon as you can. We treat these reports as urgent and aim to start looking into them within one day.

Hate crime happens when someone is targeted because of their:

  • disability
  • race
  • religion
  • sexual orientation
  • transgender identity

No one should face threats, harassment, abuse or prejudice. We are here to help you report it and get support.

How to report a hate crime

You can report a hate crime online at any time, or you can call our anti‑social behaviour hotline. You do not need to give your name if you do not want to.

When to contact Police Scotland

Police Scotland Community Safety Unit deals with all criminal hate incidents, including sectarian, racist and homophobic behaviour. Their Community Safety Unit gathers information to help prevent further harm.

  • Call 101 to report non‑emergency incidents
  • Call 999 in an emergency or if someone is in immediate danger

You can report to us and the police at the same time if you are not sure who should deal with it.
