South Lanarkshire Men’s Shed Network - a community of Men’s Sheds

What is a Men’s Shed?

The idea of a Men’s Shed is to create a space where men with time on their hands can gather to work on projects, have fun, share skills, and build things for themselves and the local community combatting loneliness and isolation in the process.

Men’s Sheds across the council area receive ongoing support and development from the Seniors Together project where necessary.

There is no set design or space for a shed, Men’s Shed utilise all shapes and sizes of buildings and are open to all different backgrounds and ages.

What to expect in a Men’s Shed

In most Men’s Sheds you will find a workshop, a social area, a place to pursue hobbies and a warm welcoming atmosphere. The Shed is a socially inclusive place where men over 18 can meet - including those who are retired, out of work, or just looking for like-minded company.

All activities in each shed are decided by the shedders in that shed – there is no set activity for a shed.

The shed is a place to:

  • Pursue hobbies or pastimes
  • Share and learn new skills
  • Socialise over a cuppa, biscuit and chat
  • Get out of the house for a while
  • Work or just relax
  • Get practical help with a project
  • Overcome loneliness

Who is in charge?

All Men’s Sheds are run by the members who attend and use them.

Each Shed has a committee of trustees, and most Sheds are registered charities.
