Active travel studies
Plans to improve walking, wheeling and cycling routes
We want walking, wheeling and cycling to be easy, safe and realistic choices for everyday journeys in South Lanarkshire. Active travel helps people stay healthy, improves air quality, and reduces traffic on our roads.
To help plan better routes, we carried out active travel studies in several towns. These studies look at how people currently travel, what stops them from travelling actively, and what improvements would make a real difference.
How the studies were developed
We spoke directly with residents to understand their experiences of walking and cycling locally. People told us where routes work well, where they feel unsafe, and where changes could encourage more active travel. We used this feedback to map potential networks and highlight possible improvements.
Accessing the studies
The studies listed below are still relevant, but they do not currently meet accessibility and readability standards. For this reason, we have removed them from our website for now.
Any new active travel studies we publish will meet these standards. We will also update older studies so they can be safely and easily accessed by everyone.
If you need to see one of the studies before it is updated, you can request a copy by emailing our roads and transportation team.
Available study areas
The studies cover the following towns:
