Dog fouling
Dog fouling - responsibilities and reporting
Dog fouling is a serious concern for us.
If you know someone is not cleaning up after their dog in a public space, you should report when and where it happens.
The law
It is an offence not to clean up immediately after your dog in any public open space. Dog fouling is unpleasant and can pose health risks.
If your dog fouls on footpaths, grassed areas, parks, or any other public space and you fail to clean it up, you may receive an £80 fixed penalty notice.
Despite increased fines, dog fouling levels in Scotland are the highest they have been in a decade, contributing to a decline in environmental quality.
Request a “No dog fouling” sign
If dog fouling is a problem in your area, you can request that ‘No dog fouling’ signs be put up.
Where to dispose of dog waste
All litter bins across South Lanarkshire can be used for bagged dog waste.
