Members of Parliament
Members of Parliament, known as MPs, represent you in the UK Parliament. They raise issues from your area, vote on national laws and help with matters that the UK government is responsible for.
Most of South Lanarkshire is covered by three UK parliamentary constituencies. Each area has one MP you can contact for help or to share your views.

What the UK parliament does
The UK parliament is based at Westminster in London. It makes decisions on issues that are not handled by the Scottish parliament. These include immigration, defence, social security, foreign affairs, employment law and parts of transport and energy.
Areas outside our administration
Some towns in South Lanarkshire are part of constituencies managed by other councils. Carluke, Law, Braidwood and Forth are under the constituency of Motherwell, Wishaw and Carluke, which is administered by North Lanarkshire Council.
Many towns in the Clydesdale area are under the constituency of Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale, which is administered by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
