UK Shared Prosperity Fund

Funding to support people, communities and businesses in South Lanarkshire

Funded by UK Government

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) provides funding to help communities, local businesses and residents across the UK. South Lanarkshire has received £12.2 million from the UK Government to support local projects between 2022 and 2025. With a 1 year  extension to September 2026.

What the fund supports

UKSPF focuses on three main priorities:

  • Communities and place – improving local spaces and community facilities
  • Support for local businesses – helping businesses grow and become more resilient
  • People and skills – improving training, employability and opportunities for residents

Of the £12.2 million awarded to South Lanarkshire:

  • £10.1 million supports general UKSPF activity
  • £2.1 million is ringfenced for Multiply, a numeracy programme for adults aged 19 and over

In October 2024 the Council was awarded £4m to extend the programme to April 2026 this was subsequently extended to September 2026.

How funding is planned and delivered

The eight councils in the Glasgow City Region worked together to create a single Investment Plan for the region’s £73.9 million allocation. This plan has been approved by the UK Government.

South Lanarkshire’s funding will help develop projects such as:

  • training and employability programmes that support people into work
  • skills development in key local sectors
  • support for local businesses, including social enterprises
  • activities that encourage active travel
  • numeracy support through the Multiply programme, helping people with budgeting and money management

Funding is being released over four years. Projects may be delivered by the council, commissioned partners or through grants to local groups, businesses and third‑sector organisations.

We continue to work with local partners to shape activities that meet local needs.
