Park Safe

We want children, parents and neighbours to stay safe outside schools. If you need to travel by car, please park well away from school entrances and never on school keep clear markings or pavements. Parking safely improves visibility, reduces congestion and helps everyone arrive and leave safely.

Where not to park

School entrances and access routes

Every school layout is different, but entrances and access routes must stay clear. Parking here causes congestion and makes it harder for people to walk, wheel or drive safely. Vehicle entrances must be kept clear at all times.

School keep clear markings

Yellow zig zag markings outside schools must stay clear at all times. They help people see oncoming traffic and cross the road safely.

Parking or stopping on these markings, even briefly or in bad weather, puts pedestrians at risk. It can also block emergency access and increase air pollution. Some markings are enforced at set times. If you stop or park there during those times, you could be fined.

Is it ever ok to stop there?

No. Please do not stop or park on school keep clear markings for any reason.

Choose safer ways to travel

Walk, wheel, scoot or cycle when you can. Fewer cars near school gates mean cleaner air and safer streets.

Park and stride if you must drive. Park a short distance away in a suitable place and walk the rest with your child.

Drive at safe speeds

Many schools have a 20mph speed limit, either all day or during school travel times when lights flash. Some nearby streets have advisory 20mph signs. Drive slowly and watch out for children on foot, bikes or scooters.

Please remember: pavement parking blocks buggies, wheelchairs and access for everyone. Disabled bays are for Blue Badge holders only, and badges must be clearly displayed.
