Title | Education Resources - Approved budget reduction proposals 2011-2012 - Increase class sizes in Mathematics and English in S1 and S2 to legislative levels |
Council Resource | Education |
Service Area | Education Resources |
Aims and Objectives | In accordance with national guidelines, the Council currently operates a policy of maximum class sizes for S1 and S2 in English and Maths of 20 pupils. It is proposed to increase class sizes in these subjects to the legislative maximum of 33. |
Conclusion | The conclusion of this initial impact assessment is that there are no adverse impacts on any part of the community covered by equalities legislation, or on community relations. The implementation of Curriculum for Excellence will introduce alternative school approaches to the development of skills in these subject areas. However, we will monitor the effect of this policy across the school population, using statistical information gathered via the SEEMIS system. Information gathered will be used to adjust future service delivery, as appropriate. If any adverse impact is identified in relation to these groups, this will be addressed through Additional Support for Learning legislation. |
