SSE Clyde wind farm fund

The Clyde Wind Farm Fund helps communities near the wind farm improve local facilities, create opportunities and support projects that benefit residents. Over its lifetime, the Fund will invest over £25 million in local projects. Each year, it receives around £1.2 million from SSE Renewables, and we manage the fund on their behalf.

The fund has two parts: the Community fund and the Development fund.

Community fund

The Community fund supports projects within 15 kilometres of the wind farm. To be eligible, your project must benefit local residents, be from a not-for-profit organisation and meet at least one fund priority, such as:

  • to secure investment, create employment, implement training, promote or secure sustainable development
  • to relieve or prevent poverty, advance education and other social purposes beneficial to a community
  • to preserve, protect or enhance the environment or heritage of Scotland, including any buildings;
  • to promote and encourage environmental improvement or enhancement including the provision upgrading of infrastructure
  • to provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time activities or the organisation of recreational activities
  • for the advancement of citizenship or community development
  • for the advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science
  • for the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage
  • for the advancement of public participation in sport
  • subject to the prior written approval of the Developer, revenue support for capital project funded under this Agreement
  • for fees, outlays, preparation and or preliminary work which an applicant requires to carry out prior to submission of an application for project funding

There is no deadline — you can apply at any time.

Funding options

Small grant

  • grants under £10,000
  • up to 100% of eligible costs

Community fund

  • grants over £10,000
  • up to 75% of eligible costs
  • match funding required

Inner host communities — Crawford, Elvanfoot, Abington and Roberton — can receive higher support:

  • Small grants up to £12,500 (100% funded)
  • Community fund grants over £12,500 (100% funded)

There is no upper limit for larger applications. Awards depend on available funding, how strongly your project meets fund priorities and the quality of your evidence.

Who can apply

To be eligible to apply for the funding from the Community fund your project must be within a 15 kilometers radius of the Clyde Wind farm Fund and Meet one or more of the priorities. Applications will be accepted from:

  • public organisations and agencies
  • not for profit Partnerships, trusts, co-operatives and other non government organisations
  • community groups, associations or organisations
  • any social enterprise or not for profit organisation

What the fund cannot support

The fund cannot support:

  • projects outside the 15km benefit area
  • political or religious promotion
  • projects already funded or normally funded by public services
  • activities conflicting with wind farm or landowner interests
  • debt repayment or costs already incurred
  • recurring running costs like salaries or utilities
  • projects that exclude people or restrict equal access

How to apply

  1. register and submit an enquiry in the Grantvisor system
  2. if eligible, you will be invited to complete a full application
  3. upload quotes and evidence, then submit your application
  4. allow six weeks for assessment. It may take longer if details are missing
  5. we send the decision and grant conditions to your named contact

Development fund

The Development fund receives 30% of the annual income and currently supports the RISE employability and training project across South Lanarkshire. From 2026 for 3 years the fund will also support the Clyde Wind Farm South Lanarkshire Net Zero Community Grant Fund for third sector organisations across South Lanarkshire.
