Our programme gives you the opportunity to learn while you are earning a salary. You will work in one of our administration support sections in a range of locations across South Lanarkshire.
You will work on your SVQ qualification with support from an assessor and your supervisor in the workplace. You will also undertake a range of corporate training courses, which are available to all ouremployees. The wide range of training courses offered is designed to further enhance your existing skills and contribute to your development as a knowledgeable and valued member of our administrative support team.

Choosing a career in Early Learning and Childcare with us
We offer you the opportunity to gain experience working in a nursery while working towards an SVQ in Social Services Children and Young People at SCQF level 7. A Modern Apprenticeship allows you to earn as you learn.
If you’re looking for a career for life and want to make a positive difference to children and families, then working in early learning and childcare is for you. You will have an important role in supporting children and families, and a sense of personal achievement from knowing you are helping them develop and learn.
There’s great demand for childcare workers, and it’s a career for males and females who want to help children achieve their potential and enjoy helping them develop their skills while being involved in a wide variety of play activities every day.
What kind of work is it?
Much of an Early Years worker’s day is usually spent working with young children and their families in nursery centres, nursery classes and outdoor play, providing high-quality Early Learning and Childcare. They provide opportunities across all areas of the curriculum for children to play and learn, as well as providing a nurturing, caring environment. Helping children with personal care, including toileting, washing and dressing, along with providing healthy snacks and lunches. All play an important part in the daily routine of the nursery.
What kind of skills do you need?
There are particular skills that are important for a job in Early Learning and Childcare. These include;

Childcare
Childcare is a challenging and rewarding career. Early Years workers provide care and education to young children, helping to develop, learn and fulfil their potential through the delivery of a play-based curriculum. They can work with a variety of families from different backgrounds and with different abilities, and promote diversity in the workplace, respecting different cultures and backgrounds. They support families who may need it and work closely with them to ensure the best possible outcomes for their children.
Childcare involves working with lots of different people who use social services:
- Babies and young people
- Carers and families of young children from a variety of cultures
- Children with physical and/or additional support needs
- Carers or parents with alcohol or drug dependency
- Children with chronic or long-term medical conditions

You will work in one of our excellent Adult and Older People’s establishments, and you will work towards an SVQ in Social Services and Health Care at SCQF Level 6, and perhaps progress to SCQF Level 7.
We offer an excellent training programme and you will be supported by our senior staff in your work location and by the assessment staff within our Care Academy. You will also be paid our living wage, and the prospects of career development and progression are excellent, but don’t take our word for it.
A career in social services is challenging and rewarding, and you can make a positive difference in people’s lives. You can work with lots of different people including adults, older people, children and young people and in many areas, such as care homes and day care centres.
You don’t need to have any qualifications, but some voluntary work experience would be great if you have it.
Choosing a construction career with us
If you are looking to build knowledge and skills that will benefit you for life and make a difference to the people of South Lanarkshire, then a job in one of our construction disciplines could be for you.
We offer a variety of Construction Modern Apprenticeships:
- Craft Apprenticeships – working for our Housing Services or Property Services sections - Joiner, Painter, Plasterer, Electrician and so on.
Learn how to carry out improvements to buildings by working on new builds, refurbishment or maintenance of our schools, leisure complexes and housing stock. Day to day work would vary - you could be working in someone’s home or a care home, a school or a library. You may be part of a team or you could be out with one tradesperson. You would be supervised and learning from experienced tradespeople.
- Technical Apprenticeships – working for our Housing Services or Consultancy Services sections – Architectural Officer, Civil/Structural Engineer, Quantity Surveyor and so on.
Learning how to design and cost new build or refurbishment projects. Day to day work would vary from working in the office, to going to one of the sites you are involved with. You would be supervised and learning from experienced supervisors/managers.
- Roads Apprenticeships – working for our Community and Enterprise Resources, Road, Transportation and Fleet Services or Roads Section – Road Operative.
Lean all the aspects of construction and maintenance of roads, including kerbs, iron work and drainage, as well as repairing or replacing pavements. Day to day work would vary, you would be working in varying-sized teams depending on the work you were carrying out. You would be supervised and learning from experienced Road Operatives, Supervisors and Managers.
What skills, values and behaviours do you need?
As these apprenticeships are for you to learn, you don’t need to have experience. However, you may be required to have qualifications from school, depending on the route you want to take. There are particular skills, values and behaviours that are important for a job in construction with us. These include:
- Being an effective communicator
- Being eager and committed to developing your knowledge and abilities, both at work and college (if required)
- Having an awareness of Health and Safety
- Being able to work with others, or as part of a team
- Being able to treat people with dignity and respect
