TitleSavings 2016-17 Introduction of Zoo charges
Council ResourceCommunity and Enterprise
Service AreaCommunity and Enterprise
Aims and ObjectivesThe aim of this policy is to introduce an admission charge of £0.50p for all children over the age of two years old who
currently access this service for free.

The introduction of this policy will allow the continued delivery of a quality service for the South Lanarkshire community.
ConclusionOur recommendation is to introduce an admission charge of £0.50p per head for all children over two years old.

The possible impact has been considered and to a certain degree mitigated by the nominal admission charge to be
applied (£0.50 per head). Hopefully customers will see the introduction of the charge as affordable and still consider
the experience great value for money. The additional income generated will minimise the rising costs associated with
animal wefare the ensure that high service standards are maintained.

In reaching this recommendation we have considered charges for other similar visitor attractions. Attractions and
related experiences may not be exactly like for like however it can be seen that the introduction of a nominal
admission fee for Calderglen Country Park Zoo represents extremely good value for money. Examples of charges -
Amazonia, Strathclyde Park, childrens admission £4.75 / Dobbies Zoo, Clyde Valley, childrens admission £1.00 /
Five Sisters Zoo and Park, Livingston, childrens admission £ 7.95 / National Museum of Rural Life, East Kilbride £3.50
In essence the introduction of this charge will allow the continued delivery of a quality service.
