Course informationThe Foundation Apprenticeship in Business Skills will develop your skills to become an aspiring leader, someone who sets the tone, culture and direction of an organisation. You will begin to develop your management style, be able to understand how a business runs and how to influence people, which is one of the key assets to any organisation. In addition, you will get a better understanding of administration, the vital support that allows any company to function effectively. This course helps develop a unique set of transferrable skills, knowledge and behaviours that can be applied to any business, no matter how big or small. You will study areas that will help you appreciate business priorities such as digital marketing, procurement, enterprise, human resources and finance.

Successful completion of the Business Skills FA could lead to a Graduate Apprenticeship (GA) or Modern Apprenticeship (MA) in a variety of sectors for example Business Management, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, Events or Hospitality Management.

The FA also supports direct progression into junior roles such as Business Administrator, Administrative Assistant, Office Assistant, Customer Service Adviser, Receptionist and Project Support Assistant.
Length of apprenticeship1 year
Units covered• National Progression Award (NPA) in business with information technology at SCQF Level 6
• Four units of the SVQ level 3 business and administration
• Work based learning with an employer
Entry requirementsEntry requirements
• Students must be studying a minimum of one or more Highers in S5.
• Students must have gained one or more Nat 5's in relevant subjects by the end of S4.
• Students must have an interest in developing greater awareness of the industry and a strong desire to work in the sector.
