Social Services and Healthcare
| Course information | Students will develop an understanding of Social Services provision in Scotland, communication with Service Users and safeguarding people and part of the NPA Social Services and Healthcare (SCQF 6). Students will also complete part of the SVQ level 2 in Social Services and Healthcare for which they will undertake a work placement. Work placements are offered in 6 month rotations in South Lanarkshire care homes and/or day care centres and NHS Lanarkshire clinic settings such as University Hospital Hairmyres or a local treatment room. There are many different career opportunities and career pathways across this range of settings. Successful completion supports entry to a variety of university courses such as Nursing, Midwifery, Paramedic Science, Social Work (Adult) or Allied Health Professional roles (physiotherapist, occupational health, speech and language therapist) The FA also support direct entry into employment in the health and social care sectors in roles such as healthcare support worker, health care assistant and social care assistant. |

| Entry requirements | Entry requirements • Students must have gained National 5 English (A-C) by the end of S4 or completed the Gradu8 level 5 in Healthcare. • Students must be studying a minimum of 1 or more Highers in S5. • It is desirable that the students achieve a Higher in a relevant subject area by the end of S6 –English. • Students must have an interest in developing greater awareness of the industry and a strong desire to work in the sector. |
