SummaryThe council is introducing a cashless mobile telephone and web-based parking payment solution that covers off-street and on-street pay and display parking, provided by an external Service Provider. The service provided is through an APP that customers can use to pay for parking their vehicles in council run car parks (off-street) and on-street parking in the council area.

The cashless payment solution will have benefits for residents, visitors and businesses by providing a service that delivers a more convenient system to allow the customer to be able to pay for and/or top up their parking ticket when and where they want enhancing the current availability of pay and display machines. The system also has the facility to remind customers when their parking is due to expire and this then enables them to top up the payment for their parking. This in turn will help to avoid a “predict and pay” system and so saves the customer from paying for more time to park ‘just in case’ and also reduces the likelihood of them receiving a parking charge notice, because they can top up from wherever they are.

In recognition of the nature of the information accessible to the service provider and the council the associated privacy risks have been assessed and actions to mitigate these agreed to ensure compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR).
