Play park maintenance and selling of rural land and green spaces for housing
Idea | Kids’ swing parks need maintained. There is no point spending many thousands of pounds installing them and then not maintaining them, they need to also be maintained to keep our kids safe. Not allowing farmland and woodland to be turned into housing or other developments. Rural areas are not for sale, and green spaces and agricultural land are higher value to animals and the human race than tarmac and nasty chemicals in the air polluting everything and making everyone ill. |

Response | South Lanarkshire’s play parks are inspected on a fortnightly basis. If any equipment is deemed to be unsafe, it is removed for the play area. Unfortunately, the council does not have a budget to replace redundant equipment, however the council does work with community groups to attract external funding for investment in these facilities. In addition, the play area investment programme is currently being rolled out utilising the funding provided by the Scottish Government. Work is currently underway in Larkhall, Cambuslang and Rutherglen with further work in Hamilton and surrounding areas planned over the coming year. Play areas in East Kilbride and the Clydesdale area is planned over 2025-27. With regard to land uses, the council is currently consulting on a new Local Development Plan for South Lanarkshire and here is a link to a survey that closes on 30 September 2024. https://online1.snapsurveys.com/interview/a6c03ee4-99b8-4b11-ba29-a81a824e627f |
