About usDolphinton Hall Community Association, a charity registered in Scotland (SC054138), was set up with the aim of taking over the running of our village hall in Dolphinton, South Lanarkshire, for the benefit of the whole community. The hall was closed a couple of years ago. Prior to that the hall provided a facility in the centre of the village for a wide range of community, social, and leisure activities, supporting the wellbeing of people in our village, and we wish to restore the facility to provide these opportunities once more. We aim to take over the hall from the council as a Community Asset Transfer (CAT) and as a precursor to that we intend to take over the hall on a two-year lease starting in summer 2025. Our application for this lease has now been accepted by the council and the lease is currently being prepared. Dolphinton Hall Community Association is formed entirely of volunteers from our village.
Our WishTo reopen our hall we currently estimate start-up costs in the region of £5,000. Our start-up costs include items such as professional fees, surveys, building fabric repairs, electrical inspection and remedial works, and insurances. The work to bring the hall back into use will be substantially achieved with volunteer labour and donated materials. However there are aspects we cannot do ourselves due to lack of skills and/or qualifications - for example electrical work. For these costs we are seeking community benefits in kind. A donation of professional support and advice is sought to provide an up-to-date Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) for the building, and for support with carrying out essential remedial works required. These works must be completed by the end of July 2025 to meet our timetable for reopening.
