Town twinning in South Lanarkshire

East Kilbride is twinned with Ballerup in Denmark. This means we have a long‑standing friendship that brings people from both places together through culture, learning and shared interests.

Ballerup is about 15 kilometres from central Copenhagen and includes the towns of Ballerup, Måløv and Skovlunde, along with smaller villages. Like East Kilbride, it is a modern town with an active community life and a strong local economy.

What Ballerup offers

Ballerup has plenty to offer residents and visitors. You will find live music venues, parks, nature and working farms, as well as sports facilities such as a stadium and a golf course. There are hundreds of local clubs and groups covering sports, arts and social activities.

If you enjoy history, Ballerup and Måløv churches feature wall paintings from the 1100s and 1200s. If you prefer modern design, the area also has striking examples of contemporary buildings and public art.
