Housing Services

Housing Services is responsible for providing a wide range of front-line housing services. The Council manages approximately 25,000 homes and also provides a range of services to the wider community. The main services are: Management of Council housing stock and estates

  • Allocation and letting empty houses
  • Sheltered housing services
  • Homelessness services and tenancy support
  • Collection of rent and rent arrears
  • Anti Social investigation services
  • Community Wardens service
  • Mediation service
  • Care taking services in multi storey flats
  • Management of Gypsy Traveller sites

Services can be accessed through Housing Offices by phone or email. In rural areas, services can also be accessed via our community flats which provide access to a range of local services. 

In addition to our front line services, Housing services also has to meet a range of statutory, strategic and policy requirements including the delivery of key strategies and plans which help to shape the type of services provided. These include:

  • Local Housing Strategy including Homelessness strategy
  • Community Safety, Anti-Social behaviour and Tenant Participation strategies
  • Service Plans to support the continuous improvement agenda
  • Planning and delivery of new affordable housing and neighbourhood regeneration
  • Planning to meet particular housing needs
  • Policy development and review
