Community planning in South Lanarkshire
Working together to improve quality of life
Community planning brings organisations and local communities together to improve everyday life in South Lanarkshire. By working in partnership, we focus on what matters most to people and take joint action to reduce inequalities and improve services.
Our shared vision
Our vision for community planning in South Lanarkshire is:
To improve the lives and prospects of everyone in South Lanarkshire making sure our communities are at the heart of Community Planning in South Lanarkshire
This means listening to communities, planning services around people, and targeting support where it is needed most.
What we focus on
Community planning partners work together to improve outcomes in five six key areas:
- Putting learning at the centre;
- Our children and young people thrive;
- Thriving businesses and fair jobs;
- Caring, connected communities;
- Good quality, suitable housing for everyone; and
- People live the healthiest lives possible.
These priorities guide how services are planned and delivered across South Lanarkshire.
Who is involved
Community planning in South Lanarkshire is led by the South Lanarkshire Community Planning Partnership
The Partnership Board brings together public services, community organisations, voluntary groups and businesses, including health, emergency services, education, skills, transport and economic partners.
Working together helps services be better joined up, responsive and focused on local needs.
How community planning works
Community planning is set out in law under the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015.
The law requires partnerships to prepare:
- a Community Plan for the whole area, setting out shared priorities
- Neighbourhood Plans for smaller areas where outcomes are poorest
These plans help target action and resources where they can make the biggest difference.
Our current plans and progress
South Lanarkshire’s Community Plan covers 2022 to 2032. It provides a long‑term direction for improving outcomes across our communities.
Progress is checked regularly by all partners. An Annual Outcome Improvement Report 2024-25 shows what has been achieved and where further work is needed.
