Risk management

We are committed to undertaking practical risk management to maximise the opportunities available and minimise losses.

We recognise that risk management is one of the principal elements of good governance and a key contributor to ensuring a sound internal control environment.

Our aim, through a systematic framework and process, is to identify, evaluate, manage, and monitor all risks within our control to protect our employees, service users, assets, service delivery, reputation, community, and business partners.

A risk is something which creates uncertainty and could prevent us, or our community and business partners, from achieving our Council Plan Connect 2022-27 outcomes, or which might detract from the successful delivery of our services.

A risk is also an opportunity, which is taken to improve services or efficiency. A risk can, therefore, be a positive opportunity or a negative threat. Risks can impact all council services, our assets, employees, reputation, and our interactions with the community and business partners.

An annual review is undertaken on our top risks. Risk sponsors assess Resource compliance with the Risk Management Strategy and provide supporting evidence.

In 2023-24, all Resources complied fully with the risk management strategic requirements. Further details can be found in the Risk Management year-end report 2023-24.
