Lunches and snacks at early learning establishments

Nursery meals and snacks

We provide brunches, lunches and afternoon snacks for children attending local authority nurseries in South Lanarkshire. These meals support children’s health and development and follow national nutrition guidance.

What food your child will receive

All nursery meals and snacks meet the nutritional standards set out in Setting the table – nutritional standards and practical guidance for early years.

If your child attends a local authority nursery:

  • over the lunchtime period they will receive a free lunch
  • long mornings or afternoons of over 4 hours and 30 minutes, we provide a brunch or afternoon tea
  • more than two hours a day, they also receive milk and fruit as part of the Scottish Government milk and healthy snack scheme

If your child attends a funded provider nursery, they will give you details of the food provided.

Nursery menus

The 2025-2026 nursery menu started on Monday 25 August 2025.  Menus include a variety of balanced meals, snacks and drinks suitable for young children.
