Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP)

How we plan affordable housing in South Lanarkshire

Our strategic housing investment plan explains how we plan and prioritise new affordable housing across South Lanarkshire. It shows what homes we aim to deliver, where they are needed, and how funding will be used to support local housing priorities.

This plan helps guide Scottish Government funding decisions and supports the aims set out in our local housing strategy.

What the plan does

The plan sets out:

  • affordable housing projects planned over the next five years
  • priorities for new housing based on local need
  • how funding and resources will be targeted to deliver homes

It covers council, housing association and other affordable housing developments across the area.

A rolling five‑year plan

The strategic housing investment plan runs over five years and is reviewed every year. This allows us to:

  • reflect progress on existing projects
  • update priorities as housing needs change
  • plan for future investment

Refreshing the plan annually helps make sure it stays realistic and focused on what communities need most.

Current plan

The Strategic Housing Investment Plan 2026-2031 was approved by the housing and technical resources committee on 17 December 2025.

The plan covers the period from April 2026 to March 2031 and has been submitted to the Scottish Government for approval.

Why this matters

This plan plays an important role in increasing the supply of affordable homes. It helps us:

  • plan new housing in the right places
  • support local people and families
  • make best use of available funding
